Volunteers

The RPH Friends Shop
The RPH Friends Shop

The volunteer group, Friends of Royal Perth Hospital, was set up in 1959 and remains an integral part of the hospital today.  The Friends run the Friends Shop as well as the trolley service and a percentage of the profits from these outlets are donated to departments in the hospital to fund the purchase of equipment.

They also escort patients to different parts of the hospital, do their shopping, hand out magazines, make tea and coffee, arrange and deliver flowers and help with archiving and administration.

There are approximately 400 volunteers whose duties range from running the Wellington Street shop and the refreshment trolley, caring for country patients, providing magazines and flower service for patients, looking after outpatients and helping in the hospital's museum.

If you are interested in becoming a Friend of RPH, please call 9224 2036 between 9am – 12 noon weekdays.

Voluntary Transport

The VoluntaryTransport team picks up and drops off patients who have no other way of getting to the Hospital.

This service began in 1936 when a group of doctors' wives borrowed vehicles to take patients, who were unable to find transport, to and from hospital.

There are currently 100 volunteers, mainly retirees, who drive 11 vehicles to and from the Wellington Street, Shenton Park and Swan district campuses.

To become a volunteer driver, please call 9224 2054.
