Research at Royal Perth Hospital has long played a vital role in the delivery of a high standard of health care in Western Australia.

Doctors, scientists and researchers at the Hospital and the RPH Medical Research Foundation (MRF) building are using state-of-the-art technology to further clinical research.

The campus supports world-class clinical research and this has been recognised by the National Health & Medical Research Council in the form of numerous grants being awarded to our researchers.

In recent years the strong link between laboratory and clinical practice at the Hospital has been demonstrated in a number of 'world firsts' in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) also has a major role on the campus, occupying most of the top two floors of the MRF building, with researchers focussed on both clinical and basic research into human disease.

A large number of clinical research trials are conducted at RPH.  The Hospital is committed to a philosophy of further research into all areas of health care, including the prevention treatment and investigation into the cause of disease, as an integral part of maintaining and improving the health status of all Western Australians.

Research Administration and Governance (RAAG) oversees the research activities at the hospital. The recent development of the Research Management System (RMS), which is a sophisticated database for the storage and interrogation of research projects, publications and clinical trials, has been a great addition to the research infrastructure on the campus. The recent establishment of the Clinical Trials Business Unit (CTBU) is enhancing the research governance associated with clinical trials across the hospital.
