Holiday Dialysis

Just because you have kidney failure does not mean that holidays are out of the question. What it does mean is that holidays must be planned with dialysis in mind. However before planning a trip you should be in reasonable health and certified fit by a doctor. If you are on haemodialysis, you will find that you need to organise your holiday in advance to allow to be booked into a renal unit.
For Australian patients:
  • Renal units in your own state need at least 4 weeks prior notice
  • Renal units out of your state need at least 6 weeks notice
  • Renal units overseas may require 6 months notice
For overseas visitors to Australia Australian dialysis units are exceptionally busy. Please provide as much notice of your intended visit as possible. The bookings for units are done yearly and only one visitor is accepted at a time. If you are planning a visit to Perth, please ask your doctor to send copies of all your blood results, screening for MRSA and VRE, dialysis prescriptions and a referring letter to the Head of Department.
Arrangements can be made though a private facility such as:
Midland Dialysis Unit, Telephone (08)9250 3666 or Email midland_rts@baxter.com.
