Our Motto

Royal Perth Hospital's Crest
The Royal Perth Hospital motto ‘Servio‘ is Latin for "I Serve" and bears testimony to a longstanding tradition of excellence in service.
Since its earliest days, RPH staff members have been committed to providing the best possible service to patients during their stay in hospital, and their best efforts in teaching and research.
All RPH staff and volunteers now wear name badges with the ‘Servio values‘ listed:
- Service,
- Excellence,
- Respect,
- Valuing our staff,
- Integrity, and
- Organisational Learning.

Members of the Friends of Royal Perth Hospital volunteer group swear to stand by the Servio motto in their annual rededication to serve.
In 1935, nurses who graduated through the Hospital training program received a badge, which featured a dark blue cross. In 1937 the Hospital Board changed the shield, and the shield and Servio motto were introduced for the whole Hospital.
The new badge was based on the arms of the City of Perth - which comprises the St George's Cross on a white shield - with a black swan in the top left canton, and a banner inscribed with the word ‘Servio‘.
