Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry!  Take another look.

Even though the infected red cell does not appear to be enlarged, take another look and note the shape of the red cell and the size of the parasite.

Plasmodium ovale?

Correct!  A very good effort!

Even though the infected red cell does not appear to be enlarged, the shape of the infected red cell gives a good clue as to the malarial species.  Well done.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!  Try again.

There is one quite distinctive parasite towards the centre of this field.  Take another look and note especially the shape of the infected red cell.  If in doubt, go back to the images in the Diagnosis section.
