Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry!  Have another try.

The ring form in the centre of the field is quite thick and coarse.  Take another look and note especially the size of the infected red cell.

Plasmodium vivax?

Correct!  Well done.

Although there is only one ring form in this field, it is quite coarse and resembles a signet ring.  The infected red cell appears to be enlarged.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Try again.

Certainly the infected red cell is enlarged and the ring form appears to be quite thick.  However the infected red cell is not exhibiting a comet shape which together with the given history would essentially rule out P.ovale.

Sorry!  Try again.

The ring form in the centre of the field is quite thick and coarse.  Take another look and note especially the size of the infected red cell.

Sorry!  Take another look.

There is one quite large distinctive parasite towards the centre of the field.  Try again noting especially the size of the infected red cell.
