Plasmodium falciparum?

Correct!  Well done.

Far too easy we know, but we thought you might like to see this rather unusual image of three marginal forms of the parasite in the same red cell.

Plasmodium vivax?

Sorry!  Have another try.

Try again and note the size of the infected red cells.  Additionally note the multiple parasites inside one red cell and the numerous marginal forms.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Take another look.

Try again and note the size of the infected red cells.  Additionally note the multiple parasites inside one red cell and the numerous marginal forms.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry!  Look again.

You correctly noted that the infected red cells were not enlarged.  Take another look and note the multiple parasites inside one red cell and the numerous marginal forms.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!

This is quite a heavy infection, with a number of quite distinctive features and should never be missed.

Go back to the Diagnosis and Teach sections
to refresh your memory and then try again.
