Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry!  Try again.

Note the size of the infected red cell and the quite thick ring form of the parasite.  Compare this with the previous image and note the differences then try again.

Plasmodium vivax?

Correct!  Well done.

Even with only one parasite in the field and a slightly atypical
red cell, you were able to correctly identify this as a typical
"signet ring" form of P. vivax.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Try again.

A good try but this is not a comet form.  Even though the infected red cell is slightly oval, a number of the non-infected red cells are a similar shape.

Have another try and note the patient history which may help.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry!  Take another look.

Note the size of the infected red cell and the quite thick ring form of the parasite, then try again.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!  Try again.

There is a very prominent parasite in this field.

Go back to the Diagnosis section and review the images then try again.
