Plasmodium falciparum?

Correct! Very good effort.
With only one parasite in this field, you were able to correctly note the small delicate ring together with the double chromatin dot. First appearance may suggest an enlarged infected red cell, however this picture is clearly taken from the tail of the film which often distorts the red cell size.
A confirmatory "dipstick" test would be useful.

Plasmodium vivax?

Sorry! Take another look.
Never easy attempting species identification from only one parasite but occasionally there is no alternative. First appearance may suggest an enlarged infected red cell, however this picture is clearly taken from the tail of the film which often distorts the red cell size.
Try again and note particularly the size and form of the parasite.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry! Have another look.
There is one parasite in this field which even though somewhat delicate and small should not be missed.
Take another look and note particularly the size and form of the parasite towards the centre of the field.
