Plasmodium falciparum?

Correct!  Well done.

Apart from the 3 parasites in the same red cell, did you notice the marginal form and the developing form in the top right of the field?  Towards the bottom left of the field, there is a "blister" form in which the marginal form almost appears outside of the red cell.

Plasmodium vivax?

Sorry!  Have another look.

Look especially for multiple parasites in the same red cell and marginal forms which are not so common in P vivax.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Have another look.

Look especially for multiple parasites in the one red cell and marginal forms which are not so common in P ovale.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry!  Have another look.

You probably noted that the infected red cells were not enlarged.  Have another look and particularly look for marginal forms and multiple parasites in the same red cell.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!  Try again.

This is quite a heavy infection and should never be missed.

Go back to the Diagnosis and the Teach sections to refresh your memory and then have another look.
