Plasmodium falciparum?

Correct!  A very good effort.

Species identification is rarely easy from thick films.  The numerous ring forms in this field are very small and as you correctly indicated are of P.falciparum.  We would always recommend species confirmation from a thin film, where possible.

Plasmodium vivax?

Sorry!  Try again.

Species identification is rarely easy from thick films.  The numerous ring forms in this field are very small which may give you a clue.  This is a case where use of one of the malaria screening test kits, in addition to thin and thick films would be worth its weight in gold.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Try again.

Try again and pay particular attention to the history; extremely unlikely to be P.ovale unless the "undisclosed" history involves travel elsewhere.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!  Try again!

Even though the species identification may be difficult in thick films, there are some distinctive ring forms in this thick film which should never be missed.

Have another look after first returning to the Teach section to refresh your memory on thick films.
