Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry! Take another look.
There are a number of parasites in this field and even though one appears to have two chromatin dots, clearly the cells are enlarged and the parasites much thicker than one would expect to see in falciparum.
As there are no mixed infections in this series, the developing form should give you a clue.

Plasmodium vivax?

Correct! Good work.
This is a fairly typical vivax picture. Double chromatin dots in vivax infections, are not so common as in falciparum but as in this case, are sometimes seen.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry! Take another look.
You obviously noted that the infected red cells are enlarged, however there is no evidence of "comet" forms and together with the history the diagnosis should be apparent.
Have another look and try again.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry! Try again.
The infected red cells are enlarged and there is no evidence of band forms. Take another look and try again.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry! Have another look.
There are three parasites in this field.
Have another look and note especially the size of the infected red cells and the shape and size of the parasites.
