Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry!  Take another look.

There are no obvious ring forms in this field
however there is one classical striking feature.

Go back to the Diagnosis section and refresh
your memory, then try again.

Plasmodium malariae?

Correct!  Well spotted.

You obviously saw the typical "daisy head" schizont.
This is a little unusual as it appears to be external to the red
cells, however the shape and colouration are very distinctive.
