Plasmodium falciparum?

Sorry!  Try again.

Have a good look at the size of the two infected red cells
and the size and the shape of the parasites.

Plasmodium vivax?

Correct!  An easy one to start this series.

Did you notice the two infected red cells were enlarged and
that one of the parasites is quite a large and thick (signet) ring.
The other parasite is in the early development stage.

Plasmodium ovale?

Sorry!  Good attempt; have another try.

You obviously observed that the infected red cells were enlarged.
Even though the two infected red cells demonstrate ovoid tendencies,
so do many of the uninfected red cells.

Take another look and note particularly the patient history.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry!  Have another look.

Have a good look at the size of the two infected red cells
and the size and the shape of the parasites.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!

There are two parasites in this field, one ring form
and one showing amoeboid tendencies.

Have another look after first referring back to the
Diagnosis section to refresh your memory.
