Plasmodium falciparum?

Correct!  A very good effort!

A particularly difficult case with very few parasites present in the thin film and this
picture showing one of the heaviest parasite ladened thick film fields, typically
encountered in the middle of the night!!!  The ring forms are very small and as you
correctly indicated are of P.falciparum species.

This is a case where one of the "dipstick" malaria kits, in addition
to thick and thin films, would be worth its weight in gold.

Plasmodium vivax?

Sorry!  A good try.

A particularly difficult case with very few parasites present in the thin film and this picture
showing one of the heaviest parasite ladened thick film fields!!!  The ring forms are very
small which may give you a clue as to the species identification.

This is a case where one of the "dipstick" malaria kits, in addition
to thick and thin films, would be worth its weight in gold.

Plasmodium malariae?

Sorry!  Have another look.

Malarial parasites not seen?

Sorry!  Try again!

Even though the species identification is difficult in cases such as this,
there are some distinctive ring forms in this thick film which should never be missed.

Have another look after first returning to the
Teach section to refresh your memory on thick films.
