Emeritus Consultants Biographies
Robert (Bob) Finlay-Jones joined the staff of the Royal Perth Hospital as a Specialist Pathologist in 1957. His skill, judgement, and dry sense of humour were quickly appreciated by his colleagues and his services were much in demand both from within and outside the hospital. He was a visiting clinical lecturer in the Department of Pathology, Univerity of Western Australia from 1957 until his retirement in 1980. Bob was born in Sydney in 1920, the son of a Commonwealth Civil Servant. Bob served as a Surgeon Lieutenant in The Royal Australian Navy in the South West Pacific Area. In 1961 Bob Finlay-Jones was invited to spend a year at The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington as a research scholar and this made a great impression on him. He also has the unusual distinction of being an Honorary member of the Association of Military Surgeons, USA. He has written over 30 papers which have usually been published in Journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurology, American Journal of Clinical Pathology etc. In 1946 Bob married Betty Sherin. They have three sons and two daughters. Two sons are doctors. In his private life he is an enthusiastic bridge player and a very knowledgable gardener. Bob Finlay-Jones retired in 1980. |
