Department of Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine

Welcome to the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine.  The Department is large, busy and progressive.  It has a heavy clinical workload in anaesthesia, acute and chronic pain for adults.

The Department proudly hosts the Anaesthesiology Unit, School of Medicine and Pharmacology, University of Western Australia and is committed to the support of research and the vigorous development of academic anaesthesia and pain medicine.

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) ANZCA and its Faculty of Pain Medicine have accredited the Department for training.  It forms part of the WA interhospital rotation for junior registrars in the first 4 years of training for the Fellowship of ANZCA.

The Department directly appoints its senior trainees / provisional fellows and senior registrars / specialist fellows and welcomes applications from WA, other Australian states, New Zealand and other countries of the world.  It offers a range of subspecialty fellowships to facilitate advanced training in these disciplines.

The Department is committed to QI and structured skills training and has a highly developed programs.  It is also committed to leadership in the discipline for the wider community and in collaboration with WACRRM conducts an outreach training program for country doctors and hospitals.

We have a proud record of achievement and greatly look forward to advancing our practice and science in the future.  I trust that these pages will provide helpful information.
