Nursing</a><br> <br><br><br> </div></TD> <!-- End Side menu bar - do not alter structure --> <td width="2%">&nbsp;</td> <td valign="top" width="100%" class="mainbody"> <br><br> <!-- DO NOT ALTER ABOVE THIS POINT! --> <p align="center" class="smallcaption"><img src="../pics/rphaboutimage.jpg" border="0" alt="Replace with Caption Text"><br> </p><!-- TEST IMMAGE REPLACE --> <!-- Main page content goes here --> <h1>Emergency Department</h1> <h2>ED Ultrasound </h2> <p class="main"> Ultrasound is increasingly being used in Emergency Medicine in the rapid assessment of critically ill patients, and to enhance the safe performance of invasive procedures. <br><br> As the Trauma Centre for Perth, the RPH Emergency Department sees a large number of major trauma patients and FAST (Focussed abdominal ultrasound in trauma) ultrasound is becoming a standard procedure for these patients. <br><br> The department has its own ultrasound machine (GE Logiqbook) with a full range of probes. <br><br> The Emergency Department at Royal Perth Hospital strives to be at the forefront of this field with one consultant with formal general ultrasound qualifications (Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine), three other experienced emergency sonographers who are working towards this degree and other consultants who are enrolled in the Certificate of Clinician Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) from the ASUM. <br><br> Credentialling within the Emergency Department follows the guidelines of the CCPU (Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound) and the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. <br><br> Western Australia s inaugural ultrasound course for Emergency Physicians was held in August 2006. <br><br> Ultrasound educational sessions are run regularly within Emergency Department by department staff. <br><br> </p> <!-- End main page content --> <!-- DO NOT ALTER BELOW THIS POINT! --> <br><br> </td></tr></table> <div class="disclaimer" align="center"> <hr size="1" color="#BD2911" width="40%"> <br> &copy;
