Continence Service

Welcome to the RPH Continence Service.

Incontinence is the involuntary loss of bladder or bowel control. It is a common condition affecting up to 4 million Australians and does not discriminate between age groups or socio-economic status. Incontinence impacts significantly on the quality of life of those experiencing it as well as their carers, be they family or health care workers. It is important to remember that incontinence can be treated, effectively managed and often cured.

This Service is managed by a Clinical Nurse Consultant in conjunction with a Clinical Nurse. We are both trained in this specialty and provide both inpatient and outpatient services.

The Continence Nurse Advisors are available for inpatient consultations for both bladder and bowel dysfunction as well as incontinence associated skin conditions. We also hold three outpatient clinics per week and referral to the clinic can be via another health professional such as GP, nurse etc. Alternatively members of the community may refer themselves. Consultations include individual assessment and the development of a management plan which may include referral to other Specialists as required.

We are also available to assess clients for funding purposes through the Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS), Continence Management and Advice Service (CMAS) and Department of Veteran Affairs. Again clients can self-refer to the outpatient clinic for this purpose.

We operate between the hours of Monday- Friday, 8am-4pm excluding Public Holidays. If you would like further information or an appointment please contact:
