Burns Service

Royal Perth Hospital is the adult burns service of the Western Australia Burns Service. It incorporates the Acute Care Burns Unit, The Burns Early Discharge Program and the Telstra Burns Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Unit.
The service has 3 Consultants, a Burns Fellow, Registrar and Resident Medical Officer as well as nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a dietician, a social worker and a clinical psychologist. The McComb Research Foundation as part of Telstra Burns is linked to RPH by a MOU to provide clinical research staff for the Lotterywest supported Burns Clinical Research Outcomes Project (BCORP) project.

  • The Burns Unit is a 9- bed unit with approximately 250 admissions per year.
  • The Burns Early Discharge Program is a 7-day per week nursing service for RPH burn patients in the community.
  • The Telstra Burns Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Unit provides outpatient services in treatment, rehabilitation and reconstructive surgery and undertakes outcomes based and clinical research to support evidence based practice.

The RPH Burns Service is a burn management resource for both the community and health professionals. The service conducts a multi disciplinary Burn Management Program (BMP) for health professionals across Western Australia and an Advance Burns Course for Nurses.
