Breast Surgery Gallery

WELCOME

The gallery is an initiative of two Specialist Breast Nurse Counsellors working in a dedicated breast clinic, Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia.

The idea was born out of concern for women facing breast cancer or prophylactic breast surgery. The lack of "real life" images may lead to unrealistic expectations about the appearance of their breast after surgery.

Management of breast cancer can be very complex and there may be a number of surgical options. It is extremely important that you are given every opportunity to make an informed decision about your surgery, particularly if you are considering reconstruction of your breast.

All decisions should be made on consultation with your referring doctor, Breast and or Plastic Surgeon.

WHAT IS THE BSG?

The BSG provides you with an opportunity to look at before and after images of women who have had breast cancer or prophylactic breast surgery. We match the type of surgery that has been recommended for you and where possible match your age, bra size and ethnicity (race) enabling you to view "real life" results.

The BSG is a free service to women in WA diagnosed with breast cancer of those having prophylactic mastectomy.

HOW TO ACCESS THE BSG.

• A referral form needs to be completed by yourself or your health care provider.
• Referral forms are available:
• Download and print (pdf)
• From the BSG Consultants
• Your health care professional
• On receipt of your referral form a BSG Consultant will contact you and your doctor.
• An appointment to view the BSG can be made with one of the consultants, alternatively women who are unable to travel to the city may have relevant images posted to their home address and a telephone consultation will be arranged.
