The amazing work of the Royal Perth Bentley Group City East Community Mental Health’s Mobile Clinical Outreach Team (MCOT) has been recognised with a nomination for a 2017 WA Health Excellence Awards.

MCOT is a proactive mental health outreach service that works with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, having a serious and/or persistent mental illness. MCOT is funded under the street to home program servicing the whole Perth Metropolitan area.

The client group that MCOT deals with is subject to the harsh realities of street living. Untreated mental illness and ongoing substance abuse make it extremely difficult for these clients to access mainstream mental health services.

MCOT provides flexible outreach mental health treatment in locations such as drop in centres, parks and streets.

MCOT consists of a part time Psychiatrist, two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Senior Social Worker. Last financial year they assessed and treated 232 clients, with 49 of those being supported on a regular basis.
