It's Carers Week

October 13, 2015

In Australia there are more than 2.86 million unpaid carers. This week Royal Perth Hospital is helping patient families and other hospital consumers identify themselves as carers by recognising Carers’ Week (11 – 17 October 2015).

Throughout Carer’s Week two displays are being held one on the Level 3 Bridge and the other in the Outpatient Clinic on Goderich Street.

Social Work Manager Alex Cann said this year was the first year a display is being held in the Outpatient Clinic.

“Outpatient appointments are often attended by patients and their family members,” Alex said.

“This year our focus is on helping family members and friends who might not see themselves carers identify, that in fact, they are.”

Carers Week is a multidisciplinary effort, with staff from allied health, the hospital executive and Carers WA working together to ensure there are plenty of experts available to answer questions, and provide advice on the support available to carers.
